This is the western-most extremity of Montreal island well known for its boardwalk, the very fine collection of bars and restaurants (best meals are at "Le Surcouf") and the general pleasantness of the environment.

As a birding hot-spot, however, it falls somewhat short of several other options in the vicinity EXCEPT in the middle of winter when the rapids under the rail and road bridges are always free of ice. As winter comes to an end this clear water attracts a number of interesting early migrant waterbirds who will pause here until the rest of the river system starts to open up. In 2008 for example, the first Common Loons of the area were seen here in late February. On the rail bridge, large flocks of Pigeons attract the occasional hawk and even Peregrine falcons have been seen here. Look out for unusual Gulls and perhaps a Raven.

Bring a warm coat - the wind over the river can be vicious. In summer just come for the ambience and a good meal ... after having been birding in the Morgan Arboretum which is very close.
