Situated in part of Parc Maisonneuve, the Botanic Gardens have a great variety of trees and shrubs and the relative peace of this extensive site mean that a wide selection of bird species (in excess of 200 have been reported) can be seen here during the seasons while many are especially evident in the winter due to the provision of well-stocked feeding stations throughout the sit. Many of the feeding stations have been carefully situated so that birds have good nearby natural cover - this tends to hold birds in the vicinity of particular feeders. Note also that there many fruit bearing ttrees and shrubs in the gardens which act as an important food source in winter for Waxwings, Grosbeaks and other fruit-eating species.More wooded areas are worth checking in spring and early summer for insectiverous species.
This is a really glorious place to visit at any season and is one of the great botanical gardens of the world. Probably because of this, and despite being surrounded by city, it attracts an undue share of the birds that pass the area. Always worth a visit. There are a number of themed areas - the Native Plant Garden, the Chinese Garden, the Japanese garden plus extensive demonstration plots, glass-houses, lakes, grassy and wooded areas etc that all attract birds. Access by public transport is very easy - take the Metro to Pie IX station by the Olympic stadium and it is just three or four minutes walk.
